In Saturday night’s Champions League finals
between La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and their city rivals Real Madrid
witnessed the latter winning Decima 4-1 in extra time. It was Real’s first
European title since 2002, and Atletico’s first Champions League final in 40
years.
Real, who went into half-time trailing, stepped up the tempo in second half, and attacked the Atletico half consistently. They eventually equalized through Sergio Ramos just seconds before the whistle, and as the match drifted in extra time, there were no doubts who would emerge victorious.
The firepower of Real came into its own in extra time, with Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo pumping in a goal each to secure the Decima. Also seen among the scores of passionate fans was Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone.
The actress, in a recent statement, had announced she was "honoured" to be a guest at the event's finale.
"(I am) Honoured to be UEFA's guest for the Champions League final in Lisbon. Looking forward to a competitive game of football with two of Europe's best teams," Deepika had said in a statement.
